Colin Verdi is an artist and illustrator living in and working in Manhattan. His work is inspired by a love of fashion and costume history, arthouse and horror film, and classic camp humor. He has worked with a range of clients, most recently creating work for publication in fashion and beauty. He is currently attending SVA for MFA Illustration as Visual Essay.

Broadway is the essence of human life. The great stories, musics and arts come from our heart and brain and presented by our beautiful bodies, voices and talents. And then we are moved by broadway shows. So I created a human-figure consisted with theatre elements, the heart is the electricity center providing power through all the body as well as the night New York city in background. Everyone has a theatre inside.

Nikki Smetters is originally from Columbus, Ohio, and is now a second-year student in the MFA Illustration Department at SVA. To her, Broadway is a party everyone is invited to, and she chose to celebrate the old-timey revues with a lively Charleston dance.

I am an illustrator based in Brooklyn who loves comics, cooking and writing weird stories.
My concept for this illustration is discovering the hidden world inside of Broadway. I wanted to make a whimsical drawing that represents the magic that the audience feels when watching a show.
Xiaohua Yang
Xiao Hua Yang is originally from Shanghai, China. He Currently lives in Queens, New York and is working on his final year of the School of Visual Arts’, MFA Illustration program.
He is inspired by intriguing and enigmatic visuals and uses illustration not only as a form of visual expression but also as a platform for storytelling.
Benjamin Yu
Benjamin Yu is an illustrator based in New York pursuing an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay that despises talking about himself in third person. He has many leather bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany. He received his Bachelors of Science in Visualization from Texas A&M and is a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2015.

Miranda Bruce is an illustrator living and studying in New York City. She was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica and moved to New York to pursue her career and studies in illustration. She received her BFA in Illustration from Parsons the New School for Design and is currently pursuing her MFA at SVA for the Illustration as a Visual Essay program

Vidhya Nagarajan is an illustrator from St. Louis living in New York City. She has been recognized by 3x3, The Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, American Illustration and Communication Arts. Some of her Clients include The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR and Fast Company.
I wanted to capture the diverse people that attend shows on Broadway and the different reactions to a moment in a play.

Christina Rycz is an illustrator from Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Pratt Institute in 2015 and is currently pursuing an MFA in illustration at SVA. Her work reflects her love of scientific illustration and the fantasy of traditional story-telling. When she’s not drawing her other occupations include nature enthusiast, tea connoisseur, and petter-of-cats.
This piece was inspired by a shared experience that many of us have: leaving an amazing production entranced, not only by the performance, but also by beautiful set design.

Deena’s curiosity in visual art was evident from an early age and she followed her passion throughout her adulthood. Varying from digital to traditional media, Deena’s work offers a unique and sensitive visual experience, ranging from conceptual to portraits and landscapes. To me theater is pure magic. The excitement that one’s has before the curtains lift is incomparable anything. Every time I see a show, I feel like a kid enchanted by a breathtaking new world created by people who are invisible behind the scenes. In my piece I wanted to capture that feeling of joy and magic.
